About Today: January 28th

Monday, January 28, 2013

Today, it was humid and a bit cloudy. 70 in Texas in January?
I heard from my soul-mate
I found out that I needed to catch up in one of my classes after being sick.
I decided that I need to save up for a vacation.
I reflected on my weekend, filled with wonderful family. Post to come.
I came to the conclusion that global warming is in fact, in effect.
I went an entire day just eating fruits and veggies.
I finally sorted out some personal issues.
And I missed California. Very much.

Complaining Won't Fix-it

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Last night, I came home and for once I didn’t have homework. I let out a huge sigh, and just as I was about to sit down, my friend Kamille called. Clearly she knew I was in distress. And that my friends, was pretty much the only positive thing to happen all day.

After cramming all weekend for my government exam, I bombed it. Hard. Then, after my class I checked my average for algebra and it has not come up. I’m barely sliding by with an 82. Then, my husband informed me that he has TWO tickets to pay off in two weeks, not 30 days like we thought. He was pulled over on Sunday and the officer told him that his “occupational” permit was not valid to him but at the same time it was legal? So he gave him a ticket anyway. And after talking to our lawyer, it turns out that the state of Texas is taking its precious time in sending us a valid one. Apparently, they don’t have to be in any kind of hurry. I also found out that I have to wait 90 DAYS before Emery can be accepted on CHIPS. Why is that a problem? Because she needs a check up, and a dentist visit like yesterday. Without CHIPS I can’t afford to take her to either. To top it all off my inspection and tags are out on my car, my flasher is officially out, and now the check engine light has decided to turn on.

Now, I know these are very small, mostly insignificant, things. And I should probably be really ashamed of myself for even bringing any of these up. But, they are my current problems. Flunking a class, means spending the money to retake it. Which, in turn pushes back my graduation date. Having two tickets to pay off, and having to get everything taken care of for my car is a big deal when half of the time there’s no money left over from my pay checks. My husband not having a “valid occupational”, is costing him a job/jobs that we could really use right about now. And even though we currently have private insurance through BlueCross, it doesn't cover dental and my co-pays are insane. Insane. The worst part about the whole thing, is not being able to do a damn thing about any of it. My complaining isn't going to hurry the process or make things go away. It won’t convince my teachers to change their teaching methods to benefit me. And it sure as hell isn't going to increase my income.

But yesterday, when I got that call from Kamille, she happily listened while I complained. I was able to say what I needed to say. Did my problems go away? Nope. Did Kamille give a bit of her “tough love”? Of course. Did I feel better after getting things off my chest? Absolutely. So now, I’m faced with dealing with these issues. One at a time though. Having everything happen all at once really threw me for a loop. Unfortunately, I let it get to me. Stress eating was at an all time high yesterday. If you saw my instagram you'd know I had McDonald's. Twice. But today is a new day! And I promise to be more positive (aka less complaining) for at least the rest of this week.  =P
