Tokyo Swept My Friend Away

Thursday, May 17, 2012

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned my friend Olivia on here before. We met through my brother and through church. She is Kim’s sister. For those that haven’t followed, Kim is my brothers girlfriend. Anyway, Olivia and Kim have been two of my closest friends. They have seen me do some crazy things, and some not so crazy things. Through it all, they’ve stuck by me, encouraged me, and for reasons unbeknownst to me managed to keep wanting me around.

But like all things in life, we all must go down our own paths. Olivia is attending A & M and living in college station while Kim is closer to home. Literally 30 minutes away. So I’m not able to see Olivia as often as I do Kim but when she does come down she usually always finds time to come see me. Whether it be at one of each other’s houses, or to meet up for a movie and dinner. This to me is what makes a real friend. Of course things aren’t the same as they used to be. We’re adults now. I have a family and she’s making headway towards her career. But I know that no matter what she’ll always be my friend.  So, this past Tuesday night, we all got together for her “send off”.

At this very moment she’s on a flight to Tokyo, Japan! My dear friend landed herself an internship position for Toshiba, and she’ll be there for ten weeks! I, for one, am pretty excited about this! I'm sure she's even more excited because Japan is the place Olivia has wanted to go and live for as long as I can remember. So, by tomorrow (or Saturday in Japan) she’ll be getting a glimpse into what her future life will be like. How freaking cool is that?!?

So here’s to you, Olivia! I’m really proud of you!
Be safe, watch out for those good looking Asian men, and bring me back something sweet!

    1. I have probably a handful of really good friends that I've kept in contact with since I can remember. But we all live so far apart and I miss them. But your right, it is nice to get to see them growing and doing their own thing.
