Prayer Request - Madison Schafer Update

Friday, July 29, 2011

“Without suffering there would be no compassion."  - Jamie
Yeah, well tell that to those who suffer." – Landon
- A Walk To Remember-

After reading about Madison I had this huge urge to go home and snuggle up with my baby girl. The minutes seemed like hours and all I wanted to do was be with Emery. Madison is such a precious little girl, and just like countless others she is fighting to just stay alive. That is not fair! This little girl has done NOTHING to deserve this. As I was headed home I cried, and I kept asking “How the hell did the world come to this?” I don’t know how many times I’ve asked this same question out loud? I usually find myself waiting for an answer that I know I will never get here on earth.

I don’t understand why people do bad things, or why babies have to die. I don't understand why people murder, or why some people that are guilty walk free. I don’t get why natural disasters end up wiping out towns and with them, PEOPLE. I don’t understand why there are still so many diseases we have no cure for. Why are there still so many countries with starving people? I don’t understand why there is so much HATE in this world. It's disheartening to think about.

Please keep this little one, and every little one fighting for their lives, in your prayers.

Prayer Request - Tripp Roth

Thursday, July 21, 2011

After becoming a mom, you feel things in such a different way. Your whole outlook on life is so different. It’s no longer about you, instead, it’s about that sweet bundle of joy that God blessed you with. Like I’ve stated so many times before, I’ve been able to read such amazing stories, and battles of life from some of the most AMAZING people/children I have never met. I literally feel their pain and heartbreaks. And because I’m a mother I feel like I automatically put myself in their shoes. What if it were Emery? What if it were our family? What would I do? How would we deal? Would we survive? Many of these stories have brought me to tears, created happiness, and most of all they have made me a better mother. These stories and these families have helped me to realize that we as parents must spend that extra time with our babies and loved ones. Say that extra I love you. Give that extra hug. Because we never know what tomorrow brings...

Meet Tripp

This little boy was born on May 14, 2009. He was diagnosed with a rare genetic skin disease called "EB." His skin (even his mouth, and eyes) are all prone to getting sores with even the slightest touch. He is usually all wrapped up (pictured above) to avoid any contact with his skin. This makes changing diapers, baths, eating, and a whole slew of other things incredibly painful for him. And it only gets worse. The doctors told his mother that he wouldn’t live past a year old. HE IS NOW TWO!

His mother’s name is Courtney, and she quit her job to care for Tripp 24/7. She is not taking one minute of the time she has with him for granted. She is such a special woman, and has never questioned “Why?”, which is something many of us couldn’t do ourselves. And right now she is in some need of prayer.

Tripp recently caught an infection due to the sores so he’s been running fevers and his health has taken a turn downwards. He’s in tremendous amounts of pain and they have to keep him pretty sedated for the most part. Courtney updated a friend of hers, and you can read that here. Also, Courtney posted a poem on her blog for her little man that has really shown me how bad things are. It brought me to tears. I am so heartbroken for her as well as for Tripp. That is such an awful thing to be going through, and this baby boy has been through so much. To not be able to do anything but watch your baby suffer is something I wouldn’t wish on even my worst of enemies.

So now, I’m asking you to please pray for Courtney and Tripp. If you’re not of the praying kind, just send them some love or good vibes. They really could use as much as possible. Thank you!

Prayer Request - Siena and Ada (Second Update)

Monday, February 21, 2011

First, as soon as I get all of Emery's birthday party pictures uploaded, I will post them. Not very many made it because my Olympus camera sucks (but it's better than NO camera and I love my baby brother for letting me have it). I really need a new camera though. But anyway, I shall post those later!

Siena and Ada:

Ada weighed in Friday at 4 lbs 13.5 ounces and is getting closer to the 5lb mark.  I'm pretty sure she'll be close to hitting 5lbs as we roll her out of the NICU.  5 lbs seemed so so far away when they were first born (as did normal size baby newborn clothes), and it's amazing at how time has just seemed to pass by.   We met with the occupational therapist to discuss little movements to do with Ada during the day to keep her muscles strong.  She is wanting her pacifier more and more...and we are ok with that if it makes her happy!  She's so darn cute..it's hard not to give her what she wants after the fight she's put up to grow and make all of us happy:)  Sunday we are planning to stay at the hospital and if all goes well, Miss Ada Bug will get her NICU passport stamped on Monday.

We are thinking Siena weighs around 3 lbs 1 ounce right now.   She was very stable all day on around 29-35% oxygen.  I gave her a pacifier and massaged her back for 2 hours today and again for another hour tonight.  She is tolerating the pedialite and moved to 2ml/hour today.  Tomorrow she will move to breast milk :)  We are thrilled with her progress and it's hard to believe that already a week has passed since her surgery.  Tuesday she will have an ECHO on her heart to see how her PDA is doing.  We are hoping she won't need another surgery.  Some babies will close their PDAs on their own.  Ada did this a few weeks after she was born.

Siena 2/13/11 Two Days After Surgery

These updates are coming from a friend of the family. She emails us when she hears from them or gets a new email from them. Please continue to pray for these little ones!!

p.s Really digging Rome's music.
He reminds me a lot of my husband.
And he takes me back to my Cali days.

Prayer Request- Siena and Ada Update

Prayer Request - Siena and Ada

Thursday, February 10, 2011
This was sent to me via an email from a friend of my mother's just now, please pray for them!

Siena needs our prayers.

Siena and Ada are two nieces of my friend Lisa McCoy who were born prematurely in December.  Please pray for nine week old Siena who with her sister Ada is just now 35 weeks gestational age this week. Siena is weighing 2 lbs 10 ounces as compared to Ada who is 4 lbs 1.8 ounces.   Ada may be able to go home in another week.  Siena has several critical prayer concerns

Siena's prayer needs:  First is her bilirubin count. It was up to 12.5 (at 7 last week).  She has been grown on TPN and lipids which are very hard on the liver.  Second, Siena's calcium level in her bones is a concern as she has been on Lasix numerous times for fluid retention which robs the body of calcium.

The third issue will have Siena in surgery this Friday.  Siena has a diaphragmatic hernia (CDH repair) surgery set for around 830 am on Friday am (this Friday) at Cooks Children’s Hospital in Dallas.  The parents, Brian and Denea, were told that the days after surgery will be very tough for Siena.  They are asking for prayer that everything will go according to God’s plan for Siena. These young parents have been through so much and they are walking this difficult road with much grace.  Please keep little Siena and Ada in your prayers.  I will update you when I hear something.  Thank you for praying.

Trusting in Jesus,
Jenny
